It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alexa “Lexi” Brooke Schoelen, age 28, of Wichita, Kansas, who died by suicide after a long and difficult struggle with her mental health on September 2, 2026. Lexi’s family hopes that by sharing the circumstances of her death openly, others who are struggling will know they are not alone, that their lives are deeply valued, and that help is available.

Born on December 13, 1997, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Teressa and Brad Schoelen, Lexi spent many of her younger years with her grandparents, gardening, swimming, and learning to cook. Then, growing up in a military family meant moving between Virginia and Texas. Her childhood held both beautiful memories and difficult seasons, with frequent moves and changes that asked a great deal of her at a young age.

Through her adolescence, life took her from Oklahoma to Missouri and later Wyoming. Those years brought more change and some difficult chapters, experiences that became part of a life that asked her to carry more than many people ever knew. They were part of a complicated journey that shaped her in ways both seen and unseen.

Her young adulthood brought her back through Oklahoma and Kansas. She launched a nutrition club in Lawton before finding her way into fashion retail, where something in her seemed to click. She had a spark for style and began cultivating a sense of autonomy and confidence in how she showed up in the world. Leaning into the belief that beauty and style were never reserved for one kind of body, she found joy in helping women, including herself, feel well dressed, seen, and appreciated exactly as they are.

Along the way, she also came to know the safety of being loved well. There were relationships in her life that gave her a place to land, people whose steadiness and strength allowed her to feel cared for and protected. For someone whose earlier years had asked her to carry so much, that kind of love mattered.

Lexi loved karaoke, good coffee, the freedom of the open road just like her dad, collecting matches, and making a space feel like home. She was a beloved daughter, sister, niece, granddaughter, aunt, co-worker, and friend. Those who knew Lexi will remember her as truly one of a kind: vivacious, strong-willed, determined, and passionate. She brought a little sass and plenty of sparkle wherever she went. There was a presence about her that was distinctly her own and when she walked into a room you knew she was there. She lived life with a spirit that could never be easily forgotten and had a way of leaving an impression on the hearts of those around her.

Lexi is survived by her mother, Teressa Field; the father who helped raise her, Dan Field; her sisters, Ashleigh Jones and her husband, Cullen, and Kristen Field; her aunt, Lisa Schoelen Bozeman and her husband, Wade; her grandfather, Norman Schoelen; and her nephew, Jaxon Mullen. She was preceded in death by her father, Brad Schoelen, and grandparents, Janet and Danny Harper.

Lexi’s family shares her story in the hope that her life will serve as a reminder that no one should have to face their darkest moments alone.
