Obituary

Bonita Jolene "Jody" Sharlow, 77, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, May 23, 2026, in Wichita, KS surrounded by her family and best friend.

Jody was born on October 4, 1948, in Beaver, OK to Don and Estella (Strome) Vessels. She attended Wichita North High School where she met her husband, David. Married for nearly 60 years, they raised three children together and later welcomed five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Jody spent many years pouring her heart into raising her three children, with a period of time as a receptionist and head of insurance billing at Primary Care Associates and as church secretary at Waco United Methodist Church, both of Wichita.

Known for her joyful spirit and kind heart, Jody truly never knew a stranger and had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved. Jody treasured every moment spent with her loved ones, whether it was baking or cooking for them or supporting them by attending activities like music/theatre performances and sporting events. She was a wonderfully involved grandmother and mother who showed up faithfully for the big moments and the everyday ones alike, always offering encouragement, hugs, wisdom, and unconditional love.

Jody was also a devoted woman of faith and an active member of Calvary Chapel Fellowship alongside her husband, David. She loved hosting Bible study, growing in her faith, and building lasting friendships within her church family. Her gentle spirit, servant's heart, and unwavering trust in God were an inspiration to all who knew her.

Jody is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Donna (Carl) Terry.

She is survived by her husband, David Sharlow; son David Lee Sharlow (Andrea); son Michael Sharlow (Staci); daughter Carolyn Hiegel (David); daughter-in-law Lynette Sharlow; brother Carl "Butch" Vessels (Carolyn); grandsons Jonathan (Elizabeth) and Christopher (Tiffany); granddaughters Mikala (Joe), Addison, and Averie; great-grandchildren Evelyn, Jace, and Hudson; and dear friend Sue Olgesby.
