Obituary

Brenda Ellen Speer, 69, died Wednesday, November 19, 2025 in Newton, Kansas.

She was born on April 7, 1956 in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Truman and Alma Sue  Tole House. Brenda was raised in Wichita where she graduated from Wichita South High School in 1975.

Brenda embraced life with a Huge Big Heart, joyful, and an always ready to help spirit. Her smile and laugh would light up a room!

She worked for the Pizza Hut Corporation for over 20 years before moving her family to the Peabody, Kansas area where she started working for Williams Service in Florence. Brenda was very grateful for having worked for this family-owned company and retired after 20 plus years.

She definitely had two loves:

First – Her family. She would give the shirt off her back to any of us and more to help out. Her door was always open and whatever you needed, Brenda was there to help out. She loved each one, from her immediate family to those who were like family to her. That would be all of her friends. Some were still from grade school to friends of her family members even.

Second – Her love of music that goes from generation to generation! Brenda loved all genres but her favorite was the Blues with the "Peabody Blusers" (you all know who you are!!!) and with her family to the Bluegrass Festival in Winfield for many years. There were many other concerts also. If you wanted to know anything on a song or artist – Brenda was the one to call.

The most important thing though was her faith in God. As she said … "Without faith and believing in God, He is the one that got me through the tough times besides my family and friends."

Brenda was always very grateful for what she had and loved life with all of us close by her.

She is survived by her son Dash A. Speer and Ashley along with their children Dylan Belgard and Wynter Speer; her daughter Chelsey R. Gates and her children Avery Gates and Rayna Ivey; her heartfelt daughter Kemery Bartlett and her son Morrison Speer; along with her grandsons Trentin Speer and Isac Speer.

Brenda is also survived by her brother Tommy Wayne House and wife Sonja; sister Renee Humbolt and husband Tony; along with aunts, uncles, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a lifetime of friends whom she held close to her heart.

She is preceded in death by her parents Truman and Sue House; husband David Gates; son Dane I. Speer; and sister-in-law Brenda S. House.

A Celebration of Life will be announced later.
