Carolyn Velma
Sue Richardson
Jun 11, 1951 — Dec 12, 2025
Carolyn Velma Sue Richardson, 74, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Carolyn was born June 11, 1951 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to mother Flora Lavice Smith (née Stroud) and father William Otis Smith. She would later relocate to Wichita, Kansas.
Carolyn was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. A lifelong homemaker, one of her greatest joys was making sure her family was happy and healthy. Her favorite greeting was, "Did you eat yet?" and her favorite activity was hurrying off to rustle something up for you in the kitchen no matter what your answer was. She was an avid fan of horror movies and Westerns, a devoted Christian, and she nurtured a brilliant sense of humor that could brighten any gloomy day. Carolyn was dearly loved by many who will carry her memory forever.
She is survived by children Ronald Richardson, Harold Wayne (Diana) Richardson, and Rebecca (Walter) Wiklund; grandchildren Timothy Connelly, Jessie Connelly, Bryce Connelly, Shaunna Richardson, Bec Richardson, and Miles Richardson; great-grandson Daine Alberson; and brother Jerry Smith.
Those preceding her in death include her parents; husband Harold Eugene Richardson; brothers Ferrell, Levi, and JD Smith; and sisters Ima Jean Smith, Frankie Dorsey, Dorothy Smith, and Wanda Shackelford.
Carolyn's life radiated a warmth whose absence is deeply missed, but all who knew her will find reminders of her love in every cup of coffee and springtime thunderstorm.
