Cheryl Lynette (Newman) Lunsford, 56, went to be with our Lord & Savior on Friday, May 8, 2026 in Wichita, Kansas, with her family and loved ones by her side.
She was born on June 27, 1969 in Waldron, Arkansas. Cheryl was raised in Mansfield, Arkansas where she graduated from high school.
For most of her life, Cheryl worked in healthcare, where she loved every patient she cared for and treated them like family. Cheryl spent her whole life loving people; whether it's handing out food to the homeless, taking strangers into her home, or volunteering at a local humane society and rescue mission. She lived in various places throughout her life before retiring in Wichita, Kansas to be near family.
Cheryl was a faithful and dedicated member of Lighthouse Community Church in Wichita, and her faith was a steady part of her life. She loved taking cruises and traveling with her kids, and she found joy in simple things like arts and crafts, spending time with pets & family, telling stories, and often spent time reading her Bible. She was affectionately known as "Moomoo" to her children and "Cheri" to those who knew her.
Cheryl is survived by her sons, Rusty Rogers and Scotty Rogers of Wichita; her daughter, Nicole Butler of Vian, Oklahoma; her mother, Pixie Goines of Huntington, Arkansas; her brother, Bill Newman Jr. of Wichita; her sisters, Brooke Goines of Huntington, Arkansas, and Suzette Newman of Fort Smith, Arkansas; her two grandchildren, Heaven LeeAnn and Margaret JoAnne, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and an untold number of friends and extended family whom she loved dearly.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, Bill Newman Sr., and also by Donald Rogers Sr., who continued to love her as family and held a special place in her heart, along with other loved ones who went before her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Lighthouse Community Church, 3401 E 47th Street South, Wichita, Kansas 67216, on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 11:00 A.M., where family and friends will gather to honor and remember Cheryl's life.
Following the service, a meal will be provided to honor Cheryl and her family. Family and friends are welcome to bring a side dish or dessert to share.
Burial of her ashes will take place on her birthday, Saturday, June 27, 2026, with a graveside service at Lower Centerpoint Cemetery in Hon, Arkansas, at 1:00 P.M.
Cheryl will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her love, faith, and kindness will be remembered always.
