Daniel Purcell, 70, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away on July 6, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

Born on December 3, 1954, at Fort Leavenworth Hospital, Dan's mother and father moved soon-thereafter to Germany during his father's service in the United States Army, before later calling Rancho Cordova, California, home. Dan spent summers of his youth back in Leavenworth, Kansas, on his grandfather's farm and eventually decided to stay and attended Easton High School. He then attended Emporia State, where he met Rhonda Henderson, whom he married in 1979, and moved back to California, where they lived until 1994, when they moved to Hutchinson, Kansas, with their two children, Sean and Sarah. Dan spent 25 years in the aircraft industry in Wichita, Kansas, starting in 1998 at Apex Engineering, contributing to the field with dedication including time at Raytheon, which became Hawker Beechcraft. Dan then returned to Apex Engineering, where he finished his career in 2023. Dan and Rhonda moved to Wichita in 2009, enjoying time together entertaining family, especially their three grandchildren, and friends at their home.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Rose Christine Purcell and John Purcell.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Rhonda (Henderson); his son, Sean (daughter-in-law Ericka) Purcell of Wichita; his daughter, Sarah (son-in-law Jim) Ongena of Chicago, Illinois; and his cherished grandchildren, Audrey and Alex Purcell, and Josephine Ongena. He is also survived by his siblings, Steve Purcell of Reno, Nevada, and Patti Purcell of Shady Cove, Oregon, as well as cousins Norma (Jerry) Henshaw of Leavenworth, Kansas; Cathy (Morris) Woods of Omaha, Nebraska; and Jerry Kruse of Leavenworth, Kansas.

Daniel will be remembered for his love of family and friends, his passion for the manufacturing industry, and his faith in God. He touched many lives with his kindness and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will by August 15, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Rolling Hills Country Club in Wichita, Ks. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Tunnel to Towers and Preborn in Daniel's memory.
