Debra Lee Young, 71, a lifelong resident of Salina, Kansas, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, December 16, 2024, surrounded by her family and adoring pets.

Debra was born on August 4, 1953, in McPherson, Kansas, to Delbert and Virginia (White) Young. In 1965, her family relocated to Salina, where she graduated from Salina Central High School in 1971.

As a homemaker, Debra found joy in the simple things in life, including sewing, quilting, and painting ceramics. Her creativity and caring nature extended beyond her hobbies, as she lovingly fostered many cats and dogs over the years, providing them with a safe and caring home. Her love for animals was matched only by her deep affection for her family and friends.

Debra is survived by her daughter, Crystal Kennard (Shelby) of Coppell, Texas; her brother, Darrell Young of Salina; her grandchildren, Gavin Kennard (Brianna), Ryan Kennard, EV Grace Kennard, and Grant Kennard; and her nephews, Derek Young (Brandy) and Jeremy Young. She is also survived by two lifelong friends whom she considered sisters, Robin Robertson and Ruby Sweezer, along with three children she cherished as her adopted grandchildren: Leslie, Cody, and Kenneth.

Debra was preceded in death by her parents, Delbert and Virginia Young, and her brother, Donald Young.

A memorial service will be held in Salina after the holidays to celebrate Debra's life and the love she shared with so many.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a local animal shelter in her honor.

Debra will be deeply missed, but her love, kindness, and the many memories she leaves behind will be cherished forever.
