Obituary

Deston Jay Bryant of Lindsborg, Kansas, passed away on August 27th, 2026. He was 66 years old. He was born on March 30, 1960 in Phoenix, Arizona to Jack V. and June D. (Eklund) Bryant, the youngest of four siblings.

He moved to McPherson, Kansas when he was young and began attending McPherson public schools. In high school he participated in wrestling where he thrived and excelled and, later in his life, Deston would reminisce fondly of his wrestling achievements.

He graduated from McPherson High School in the spring of 1978 and, after working at a few short term jobs, began his career at McPherson Refuse Service, which later became McPherson Area Solid Waste Utility, where he started as a driver and eventually moved up to be a Collection and Recycle Supervisor. He worked hard for MASWU for 35 years. Later he continued his career at Viega in McPherson.

Deston married Sandy (Kandt) on August 31, 1996 in McPherson, Kansas. He loved his family deeply, especially his four daughters, and had many pictures of them up in his house and in his truck until his last day.

Deston loved spicy food. Tabasco sauce was a staple in his life as was canned spinach, because how else could he be strong like Popeye? He also loved Hot Wheels and cars, particularly Chevelles. Though he never got around to fixing it up, he held on to his ‘70 Chevelle with affection.

Thankfully, Deston knew what good music was and listened to it often. He had frequent dance parties with his wife and daughters and he never accepted the country versions of the classic rock songs. God love him for that. Many memories people have of him have one of his favorite songs attached to it.

His laugh was loud and contagious and his sense of humor could make even the gloomiest soul crack a smile.

Survivors include: his wife Sandy Bryant of Lindsborg, four children, Courtney Stiebens (Joshua) of Moundridge KS, Mariah Bryant of Loveland CO, Hannah Bryant of Titusville, FL, Ashlyn Bryant of Topeka, KS; grandchildren Eustis Stiebens, Rose Stiebens, Judson Stiebens, Ivan Stiebens, and Margaret Stiebens, and brother Darrel Bryant (Beverly) of Galva, KS., along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceeded in death by his parents Jack V. and June D (Eklund) Bryant and his sisters Jackie Steinle and Susanne Sammer.

Memorial donations can be given to the First Baptist Church of Lindsborg or to the family of Deston Bryant. P.O. Box 492 Lindsborg KS 67456.
