Obituary

Donald Edgar Matschull, 78, formerly of Plano, Texas, died Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at  Newton Presbyterian Manor in Newton, Kansas.

He was born on December 8, 1946 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of George R. and Margaret Mittag Matschull. With Donald's father being a Safety Engineer for Travelers Insurance, the family traveled across the country. The family settled in Prairie Village, Kansas,  and Donald graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School in Olathe, Kansas and later from Kansas State Teachers College.

After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1968, Donald moved to Plano, Texas where his parents lived. He continued to live there until moving to Newton, Kansas within the past year to be close to his brother.

While living in Plano, he sold and repaired bikes at a local Schwin bicycle shop and was the Business Manager at Faith Lutheran Church. He taught bicycle safety and gave horse riding lessons at Heritage Hill horse ranch. He also wrote two books on working with horses.

Donald had been a longtime member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Plano and then attended Zion Lutheran Church in Newton.


He is survived by his brother Larry Matschull and his wife Janet of Newton along with two nieces and three nephews.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents and sister Grace Penney.

Funeral services will be at  Faith Lutheran Church Plano, Texas on Saturday August 9 at 2 p.m.
Interment will take place next to his parents at Plano Mutual Cemetery in Plano.

Arrangements are by Affordable Cremations Plus in Wichita, Kansas.
