Dorothy S
Holt
Nov 20, 1934 — Jun 7, 2025
Dorothy S Holt, 90, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025 in Wichita, KS. Born on November 20, 1934 in Minco, OK to Arthur and Nalva (Henderson) Shastid, she grew up in Checotah, OK. She met her husband Wayne at Connors State College, and they married on September 4, 1956 while attending Oklahoma State University. She taught 3rd grade prior to starting a family.
Dorothy and Wayne lived in Haysville for 63 years, and she was active in the community. In addition to serving as a poll worker through countless elections, she was instrumental in the creation of the Haysville Community Library (with multiple terms on the Board of Trustees, including as chair) and the library's foundation.
Dorothy liked to travel, taking several bus trips with Wayne, and they shared the country with their grandkids, who fondly remember solo trips with their grandparents. She dearly loved creating in "Dorothy's Corner" (a/k/a their Haysville kitchen).
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother John Shastid, and sister Lucille Campbell. In addition to Wayne, she is survived by her son Stephen (Denver, CO) and daughter Valerie (Ft. Worth, TX), grandchildren Breanna, Michaila, Greta, Josh, Janel, Stephanie, Shannon, and Abby, plus 16 (and counting) great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 14 at First United Methodist Church, 330 North Broadway, Wichita, KS. Memorial gifts may be made to the Haysville Community Library or a charity of your choice.
