Douglas Leon Bump, 82, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 13, 2025.

Doug was born on January 18, 1943, in Evansville, Indiana, to Francis "Leon" and Helen Marie "Rosie" (Williams) Bump. His family later settled in Towanda, Kansas, where Doug graduated from Towanda High School in 1961. He went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering from Kansas State University in 1967.

On June 1, 1966, Doug married the love of his life, Shirley Jean Riggs, at the Methodist Church in Towanda. Together they built a life filled with love, family, and adventure, eventually making Wichita their home in 1978.

Doug's career with the United States Postal Service spanned more than 30 years. He began in Springfield, Missouri, and went on to serve in Iowa, Illinois, and Kansas, holding various leadership roles. In 2002, he retired as Plant Manager of the Wichita Postal Facility near the airport.

Hardworking from a young age, Doug spent his teenage years helping in the hay fields around Towanda and working at Neimer's IGA. Beyond work, he had a passion for motorcycles, spending countless hours buying, fixing, racing, and riding them. A lifelong motocross enthusiast, Doug proudly earned First Place in the Over-60 division of the Kansas State Motocross Championship in 2011 — a trophy and photo of him are displayed at the Kansas Motorcycle Museum in Augusta.

Doug also had a love for the skies and spent several years as a private pilot, co-owning a Luscombe airplane with his friend Tom Brasser. An avid outdoorsman and adventurer, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, scuba diving, snow skiing, camping, boating, jet skiing, and four-wheeling.

Above all, Doug was devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Shirley; son Ritchie Bump and wife Holly of Scottsdale, Arizona; daughter Aimee Bump and Nathan Howard of Wichita; brother David Bump and Diane Traylor of El Dorado, Kansas; grandson Eli Bump of Scottsdale, Arizona; and nephews Matt Bump of Andover, Kansas and Caiden Bump of El Dorado, Kansas. Along with numerous relatives and countless friends who loved him.

Doug will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, love of family, and the many passions that brought him joy throughout his life.
