Eddie Wayne Winkle, 86, longtime Wichita resident, died Thursday, May 14, 2026 at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.

He was born on March 13, 1940 in Demmitt, Texas, the son of O.B. and Ruth Louise McHanon Winkle. The family moved to Belle Plaine, Kansas where Eddie was raised and graduated from high school.

Eddie moved back to Texas for a short time period before returning to Belle Plaine and later moved to Wichita where he lived for 60 years.

Through the years Eddie had worked at George C. Christopher Steel and Boeing Aircraft from which he retired. He later worked at the airport for FedEx.

Eddie was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. He also liked to play pool with his friends.

Survivors include his son Erick Winkle and wife Tarena of Goddard; daughters Holly Fitzhugh and husband Shane and Vicki Blackwood all of Wichita; sister Sheryl Chase; grandchildren Chris Blackwood, Zachary Winkle, Kyle Fitzhugh, Brilea Winkle, Kelsie Jackson, Justin Winkle, Rayven Fitzhugh, Joshua Winkle; and 10 great grandchildren.

Eddie is preceded in death by his parents; wife Carly Jean Helms Winkle; sister Dorothy Weathers; and granddaughter April Blackwood.

Private family services will be held.
