Eugene Ellsworth Hinton, Jr., 77, of Wichita, died Thursday, March 20, 2025 at the Robert J. Dole V.A. Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.

He was born on December 5, 1947 in McAlester, Oklahoma, the son of Eugene Ellsworth and Mildred Rebecca Queen Hinton, Sr. The family moved to Wichita when he was a child.

After graduating from Wichita Heights High School, Gene enlisted in the U.S. Army. After being discharged from the military he returned to Wichita.

Through the years Gene had been an automobile mechanic. He loved spending time with his family along with fishing and camping.

He married Edyth Ruble on August 22, 1991 in Wichita. She died on November 16, 2018.

Survivors include his daughters Lisa Cox of Wichita and Tammy Hinton of Florence, Ks.; eight grandchildren including Tameshia Hinton, Shattea Hinton and Jaylen Hinton; and nine great grandchildren

Gene is preceded in death his parents; wife Edyth; sons Jason Wade Hinton and Brian Christopher Hinton; brother Charles Hinton; and an infant sister.

A Celebration of Gene's life will be held at 4:00 P.M., Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 3750 Dusty Road, Derby, Kansas 67037

In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to the Kansas Honor Flight.
