Obituary

Frances "Elaine" Black, of Wichita, peacefully passed away in her sleep on May 25, 2026, at the age of 70.

Elaine was born in Waterloo, on March 22, 1956, to Francis "Kak" Burk and Helen Tohler. She graduated from Eureka High School in 1975. Elaine married Phillip Black on October 23, 1976, and together they raised three wonderful children: Nyccole, Nathan, and Chad, whom she loved dearly.

Elaine loved music, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. She was known for her ornery sense of humor, often teasing those she loved, pulling little pranks, and making people laugh. She always had a funny story to share and a gift for bringing joy into ordinary days.

Elaine was a hard worker with a heart for hospitality. One of her favorite things to do was prepare and share meals with the people she loved. She also had a generous heart and was always willing to help others. Elaine's greatest joy was her family. The memories she created around the table through laughter and love will be treasured forever. Her legacy of laughter, kindness, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Elaine is survived by her daughter, Nyccole Swigart, and her husband, Bill Swigart; their children, Calvyn Swigart and his wife, Katelyn Swigart; Gratya Swigart and her boyfriend, Mik'Quan Deane; RC Swigart and his fiancée, Alyssa Patty; Tyndale Swigart; and Thomas Swigart. She is also survived by her son, Chad Black; his wife, Trinh "Hanah" Tran; and their son, Binh Paul Black; her son, Nathan Black; and many other extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Douglass Community Center. Dinner will be provided. Family and friends are encouraged to bring photos, stories, and special memories to share as we gather to celebrate Elaine's life.
