Leopold family patriarch, Gary Adrian Leopold, Sr. was called home by the Lord August 2, 2025 at his home in Wichita, KS. Born October 9, 1949 in New Orleans, LA, he spent his childhood growing up on Washington Avenue in downtown New Orleans. Graduating Alcee Fortier High School in 1967, he was subsequently drafted into the Army the following year. He married Sheryl Lynn Tolar, also of New Orleans, LA, in 1969.

In the Army, Gary served as Sergeant and Platoon Leader in the Da Nang province during the Vietnam War and was forever medically affected by exposure to Agent Orange. His honors and awards during service include the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, two Overseas Service Bars, Expert Qualification Badge for the M-16 rifle, and the Army M-14 Distinguished Rifle Shot Marksman award.

After serving his country, Gary returned to Louisiana to continue growing his family. A whiz with numbers, he ventured into many fields of work including the oil business, car sales, beer distribution, and lastly advertising. Gary retired in 2011. He went on to pursue several passions and interests including taking care of his family any way he could, spending time with his best friends of more than 50 years, Jerry and Lori, playing video golf with his friends, listening to music, creating small art projects, taking car trips with Sherri, and maintaining his Diamond status with Harrah's.

Gary was especially proud of his three sons, Gary, Chris, and Timothy, who are each gainfully employed in their chosen fields. Gary is a high school band director, Chris is in construction management while also maintaining a very active musical life, and Timothy is a full-time professional musician in New York City. His grandchildren also filled him with pride: Leo is working full-time in the cyber-security business; Sam is a Junior studying vocal performance at the University of Kansas.

Gary also made frequent contributions to his favored charities, including Veterans of Foreign Wars, St. Jude Children's Hospital, the Union Rescue Mission, Kansas Food Bank, The Salvation Army, and the U.S.O.

Gary Leopold is preceded in death by his parents, Jonas and Lucie Leopold, and by his siblings Gay, Steve, and Barry Leopold. He is survived by wife Sherri, sons Gary, Chris, and Timothy, daughter-in-law Donell, grandchildren Leo and Sam, and sister Kathy Leopold.

Public viewing will be held at Affordable Cremations Plus (7920 W. Kellogg Dr, Ste. 200, Wichita, KS 67209), Saturday, August 9, 2025, 11:00-3:00pm. A brief ceremony will take place at 12:30pm. He will be laid to rest at a later date at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Winfield (1208 N. College, Winfield, KS 67156), which will be followed by a Celebration of Life. Details to follow.
