Gary Wayne Phillips, age 84, peacefully passed away on May 13, 2026, at his home in Wichita, Ks. Born on October 3,1941 in Hutchinson, Kansas, he was the cherished son of Everett Phillips, a proud veteran, and Mildred Phillips (Rice). Growing up in a military family, Gary had the unique opportunity to travel the world as a child, with Cape Cod holding a special place in his heart. One of his fondest memories was hitchhiking with his brother from Hutchinson Kansas to Cape Cod to complete high school, a journey he often recounted with laughter and nostalgia. Throughout his life, he maintained connections with several friends from the Cape, reflecting on the bonds he cherished.

Gary showcased his athleticism and determination by playing football for Hutchinson Community College while juggling multiple jobs to support his family, including working in the salt mine.

His career flourished as he became a Marketing Manager for Derby Refinery which was later acquired by Coastal State Gas Company. His work brought him immense joy, and he valued the lifelong friendships he formed with his co-workers and colleagues.

In Hutchinson Gary met the love of his life, Judith, and they celebrated their union of marriage in Great Bend Kansas July 11, 1964. They enjoyed 47 years of marriage, raising their family in Hutchinson and Wichita Kansas.

Gary's passions in his younger years included golf, jogging, coaching, watching his children play sports, which later evolved into supporting his grandchildren in their athletic endeavors. He loved hosting gatherings and feeding anyone who joined, often bringing people together with his infectious spirit and warmth. He was always ready with a captivating story or a well-timed joke. One of his treasured experiences was traveling with the Great Bend Brother's and Sister's Group, creating lasting memories along the way. Later in life Gary enjoyed family gatherings where he got to watch his great grandbabies play. He also enjoyed his visit from what we call our/his neighborhood family.

He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, wife, Judith Phillips, son in law, Jerry Yankovich, and his siblings; Steve Phillips, Mike Philliips, Richard Phillips, and Patricia Westbrook.

He is survived by his three children; Terri Leschuk (Erik), Cassie Yankovich, and Tony Phillips, along with six grandchildren: Michael Peters (Jamie), AJ Peters (Paige), Jessica Yankovich (Tim), Raven Yankovich (Jake), Jaxson Phillips and Cash Phillips and 6 great grandchildren Jayden, Maverick, Ridge, Blaise, Zeke, Gunnar.

In honoring Gary's wishes, there will be no funeral service. Instead, the family invites all who knew and loved him to a celebration of his, with the date to be determined.
