Obituary

Gary Adams 88 Wellington, Ks died peacefully on February 5, 2025.

He is survived by his loving wife Karen, numerous nieces and nephews, many beloved friends and by extension his Walmart family.

Gary was born on September 29,1936 to Dallas and Maurine (Bodwell) Adams at home in rural Partridge, KS. He loved his childhood and spending time especially with his father and helping him care for his cattle herd. He loved helping his mother cook by stirring the gravy.

He graduated from Arlington high school in 1954. He then went on to college and graduated from the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy in 1958. At that time he was the youngest pharmacist in the state of KS. He worked as a pharmacist at Coberly Drug store in Hutchinson until May of 1974. He then became a tennis teaching professional in Hutchinson until 1990. Several of his students got full tennis scholarships to college. He also enjoyed teaching water skiing for a few years. He especially enjoyed slalom skiing.

He then moved to Salina to resume his work as a pharmacist for Key Rexall. He moved to McPherson in April of 1993 to work as a traveling pharmacist between three rural communities. This allowed him to continue to teach tennis in his "spare" time.

On April 2,1994 he married Karen Holliday from Hutchinson, KS the love of his life and they enjoyed nearly 31 years of being happily married. They lived in McPherson until 2002, when they moved to Wellington, where he worked at K-mart on S Broadway in Wichita until his retirement.

At the age of 80 he went to work as a cashier at Walmart in Wellington, a job he dearly loved. He has always been a people person and enjoyed making people smile. His beautiful smile will be greatly missed by all that knew him. He had a solid hope for his future, one that is based on the Bible and one that he gladly would share with anyone. Gary was Baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on May 5, 1974.

Although Gary had many unexpected health concerns the past few years, he had a very pleasant and positive attitude through everything. The hospital staff has remarked many times at what a sweetie he is. Gary was a happy man by nature & it's with heavy hearts that we have to say good-bye for now to this dear man.
