Gloria Jean (Grubbs) James, 80, passed away on August 25, 2026.

Gloria was born May 6, 1946 in Warsaw, Indiana, to Marvel and Luella (Taylor) Grubbs. She lived in Indiana until moving to Kansas 39 years ago, where she made her home for the remainder of her life.

Gloria was a fun-loving, easygoing woman who cared deeply about her family. She especially treasured her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and attended her grandchildren’s sporting events wherever she could. She was the mother of David Prescott, Ronald Prescott, Jr., and Shari Munson, and also considered Wade Sharkey her adopted son. She was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

Faith was an important part of Gloria’s life. She loved going to church, reading her bible, and spending time in prayer. Those who knew her will remember her as a woman or prayer whose faith was woven naturally into her everyday life.

Gloria also took pride in her work and in treating people well. Her gift for relating to others was recognized through several customer service awards during her employment.

She has a special affection for animals and loved her pets dearly, particularly her beloved cat, Buddy.

Gloria’s husband, Donald C. James, preceded her in death on June 4, 2025. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Marvel and Luella Grubbs, and her siblings Larry Grubbs, Dona Tooley, and Connie Conley.

She is survived by her children, David Prescott, Ronald Prescott, Jr., and Shari Munson; her adopted son Wade Starkey; her15 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; her sister Judy Sims; and other relatives and friends who will remember her warmth, faith, and love for her family.

Gloria will be remembered for her easygoing spirit, her love of family, her devotion to prayer and scripture, and the simple joys she found in being with the people – and animals – she loved.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, October 2 between 3:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. at King’s Cross Church, 221 South Pioneer Avenue, Lyons, Kansas 67554.
