Obituary

James Michael Bishop, 71, died Saturday, February 15, 2025 at his home in Mulvane, Kansas with his wife Lorraine by his side.

He was born on January 17, 1954 in Wichita, Kansas. Jim was raised in Wichita where he graduated from Wichita Southeast High School in 1972 and later from Friends University with a Bachelors Degree in Business.

A few years after high school Jim went to work at Boeing Aircraft. He felt his true calling was in law enforcement as he began a career with the Wichita Police Department that would span over 21 years. During those years Jim became a Lieutenant in the Homicide Division, working as a Detective alongside of Ken Landwehr until retiring from the Wichita PD in 1999. Jim then moved to Guthrie, Oklahoma where we served four years as Police Chief and three years as the City Manager. He later became the Police Chief in Cushing, Oklahoma. After returning to Wichita in 2004, Jim went to work for Durham and First Student bus companies for the school district.

Not long after returning to Wichita he met Lorraine Guyle and they were married on July 19, 2013 in Wichita. Together they enjoyed traveling, going to concerts along with K.U. Jayhawk sporting events and Kansas City Royals games. They were members of the Mulvane Christian Church.

Jim was an avid fan of Classic Rock and Roll, along with enjoying playing golf, billiards, Texas Hold Em, and fishing.

Survivors include his wife Lorraine of the home; daughters Krista Bishop and husband Matthew Amons of Derby, Heather Neighbors and husband John of Humboldt, Ks.; sister Susan Perry and husband Edward of Wichita; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Jim is preceded in death by his mother Norma Jean Fine: brother Scott Allen Fine; and his grandparents Hellen Dorothy Bishop and (Doc) Adlore Bishop.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, March 1st at the Mulvane Christian Church with Pastor Dave Carson officiating. Inurnment will take place in Jamestown, Kansas.
