Jerry Bunn Baker, 88, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 18, 2026 at the Kansas Veterans' Home in Winfield, KS.

He was born in Glencoe, Oklahoma, April 29, 1938 to Ray and Lucy Baker. Jerry graduated from Glencoe High School in 1956 and began his working life at Boeing in Wichita, Kansas. In 1961, he entered the U.S. Army. He served honorably for three years, including a yearlong deployment to Korea, which remained one of the most meaningful chapters of his life.

Following his military service, Jerry found his true professional calling in 1970 when he began working at Sears. He dedicated the rest of his career to retail sales, fueled by a genuine love for people. Jerry believed that every customer had a unique story to tell, and he wanted to hear them all.

He had a wide-ranging curiosity about most everything including WWII era history, computers, and far-away places (especially Hawaii). In retirement he loved traveling with Jan and seeing as many of those places as possible.

Jerry is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 44 years, Jan Baker (née Freeburg); and parents, Ray and Lucy Baker.

He is survived by his son, Darren Baker (Gerald Frisbie); stepson, Rodney Johnson; stepdaughter, Sherri Johnson; grandchildren, Kelli (Nathan) Lenz, Emily (Anthony) Fasano, Mariah Nathan, Katelyn Nathan, Daniel Johnson, Anthony Nathan and Nicholas Nathan; great-grandchildren, Clara Fern Lenz, Eli Lenz, and Solomon Lenz; sister, Betty Applegate; Nephew Dusty (Becky) Applegate, nieces Jan Woodrell and Pam Wilson.

In alignment with his wishes, no formal services will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Kansas Honor Flight.
