John F. Morton, Jr., 71, died unexpectedly at his home in Abilene, Kansas on Thursday, October 31, 2024.

He was born on August 29, 1953 in Abilene, the son of John F. and Maurine Payton Morton.

John was a graduate of Abilene High School and married Sheila Renee Benson on October 31, 1987 in Abilene.

He had worked for 20 years at the Debonair Kennels, 15 years at Tony's Pizza and 20 years at Russell Stover until retiring in 2022.

John loved to make people laugh. He enjoyed fishing and cooking as well as having a green thumb when it came to gardening.

Taking care of his wife Sheila was very important to John, she survives at the home. He is also survived by his daughter Shannah Barve and husband Robert of Salina; two brothers Mike Morton and wife April, Steve Morton and wife Karen all of Abilene; and granddaughter Rylee Vigil.

John is preceded in death by his parents and son John Morton, III.

A Celebration of Life will be held later.
