Obituary

John Marvin Provorse, 84, passed away peacefully at his home on November 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 3, 1941, John lived a life defined by hard work, deep devotion to family and God, and an unwavering work ethic.

A longtime resident of El Dorado, Kansas, John and his wife, Mary, raised their four daughters on the family farm, where John spent his years tending the grounds and the custom-made ponds on it. He also managed multiple rental properties.

John obtained his private pilot's license and enjoyed flying during his earlier years. He also spent four months in Vietnam as a consultant during the war. His career included time spent at Boeing and Cessna, and later led him to open DER Associates, his private business, as a Designated Engineering Representative (DER) for the FAA. This job enabled him to travel the country and around the world, including memorable assignments in Alaska and China.

John created a home filled with love, grit, and laughter. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Mary Provorse, whom he met at the age of 14. John was a proud father, grandfather, and patriarch whose calm presence, sharp mind, and steady humor will be deeply missed. His legacy continues through his children and grandchildren, who carry his resilience, warmth, and love into future generations.

John was preceded in death by his parents Hiram and Virginia Provorse, his wife, Mary Louise Provorse, granddaughter Shawnee Redman, and two grandsons, Ryan and Scott Provorse.

He is survived by his brothers, Gerald (Marsha) Provorse and Carl (Toby Ross) Provorse; and by his daughters, Vicki (Joe) Redman, Janet (Bryon Kuhn) Provorse, Susan (Patrick) Mileham, and Pam (Tim) Schelske. He is also lovingly remembered by his cherished grandchildren: Robert Redman, Logan Provorse, Jessica (Eli) Chiles, Nicholas Mileham, Brenna Mileham, Marcus Schelske, Jonathan Schelske, and Evan Schelske; and by his beautiful great-granddaughter, Lexus Schelske. Other very dear family members include Bridget Wilkinson and her son Declan. He was additionally blessed with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

His light and love will be missed but will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
