John Bain Purviance, 71, died Saturday, March 14, 2026 at his home in Wichita, Kansas.

He was born on February 22, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Harold Raymond and Betty Jane Donnom Purviance. John was raised and attended school in Chicago. He served in the U.S. Army.

After being discharged from the military at Ft. Riley, Kansas, John moved to Wichita in 1976. He married Tammy Faye Garringer on May 17, 1984 in Wichita.

For several years he had worked in Wichita for Rainbow Bread and later was a General Manager for Hardee's and Arby's Restaurants. In the most recent years John had worked for Spangel's Restaurants.

Through the years he had been involved with Boy Scouts and was a member of a bowling league. John enjoyed taking road trips, riding roller coasters, and was an avid television watcher.

Survivors include his wife Tammy of the home in Wichita; his children Jeanette Geiger and her husband Mark, along with Patrick Purviance of Wichita; as well as Tammy's children Gary Ollek and wife Ashley, Robert Ollek, Skyler Ollek; sisters Carol and Laura; and several grandchildren including Kristen Geiger and Ethan Geiger.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, March 19 between 5:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. at the Haysville V.F.W. Post #6957, 7507 S. Broadway, Haysville, Kansas 67060

Inurnment will take place at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Winfield, Kansas at 1:00 P.M., Friday, March 20.
