Obituary

Joseph (Joe) Michael McCartney, 35, passed away on January 26, 2026, in Wichita, Kansas.

He was born October 5, 1990, to Michael and Martha (Marti) nee Rice McCartney. He was home schooled by his parents up until his senior year of high school, graduating from Campus High School in Haysville. He then graduated from Wichita State University in December of 2018 with bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, working his way though school while owning his own construction business as an apprentice of Mark Dreiling. While at Wichita State University, he joined the mini Baja team, welding and designing for the team. There, he met the love of his life, Lindsey Gallagher, in 2013, who he married September 15th, 2018. He then built a career as a test, software, and stress engineer at Spirit Aerosystems.

Joe was a kind, loving person with a quiet sense of humor. He loved rock climbing, video games, and working with his hands. He was always designing, building, or fixing something, and he never hesitated to help others.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Katherine Jobson, and brother, John McCartney. He is survived by his wife, Lindsey McCartney; his parents; his niece, Margaret Jobson; and his nephew, Daniel Jobson.

Celebration of life will take place on March 20th from 6-9pm. Open mic for sharing memories starts at 7pm. at the Wichita Boathouse, 515 S Wichita St, Wichita, KS, 67202
