Kay Camille Flook, 88, passed away on June 20, 2026 in Wichita, KS. She was born on November 24, 1937 in Overland Park, KS to Francis and Fern (Hathaway) Berthot.
As a child, Kay set her sights on becoming a teacher. She received her bachelor’s degree from Kansas State Teachers College in education and earned a master’s degree in English from Wichita State University. She was an English teacher for Augusta, Haysville, and Wichita public schools teaching junior and senior high and was an adjunct professor for Friends University and WSU. For 33 summers she worked at Cascade Cottages inside the Rocky Mountain National Park with her husband Johnny, a place she considered her second home. Kay was an excellent seamstress and quilt maker. While at KSTC, she also pursued formal education in vocal music and for many years served as Choir Director at St Mark Presbyterian Church in Haysville, a ministry she dearly loved.
She is survived by her husband, John, daughters; Shelley Pool (Jim), and Kathy Adamson; three grandchildren: Weston Pool, Aaron Pool, and Jamie Pool, and one great-grandson, Carter Pool. A celebration of life will be at St Mark’s Presbyterian Church in Haysville on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Wichita Art Museum.
