Ken Arnold, 1951 – 2024

Ken Arnold, a writer, musician, and unapologetic advocate for a better world, slipped away at 73, but not before living a life like a rock song, rough edges smoothed by melody, unforgettable to the end.

Born in 1951 in Wichita, Kansas, Ken was a man of wanderlust and wonder, chasing down friendships, experiences, and the occasional beat of a guitar from Wichita West High School to the far reaches of Western Europe. He built friendships and memories that would last a lifetime—ones filled with laughter, wine, and the endless search for meaning in the noise.

Back home in Wichita, Ken became a published author and a tireless lover of words, spinning stories and creating beauty where there seemed to be none. In retirement, he joined forces with the local Democratic Party—because, damn it, someone had to try to make this world better. He believed in change, in fighting for the underdog, in standing up when things felt wrong, and he never stopped.

Ken leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Jan, stepchildren William, Ryan, and Alyssa, and his cherished grandson, Jerry. He built a home with Jan, full of good food, music, deep conversations, and the loyal companionship of their dachshund, Ruby. He also leaves his brothers, Danny Hawthorne and Bruce Arnold, and a community of friends who will remember him for his wit, his warmth, and his uncanny ability to turn every gathering into something worth remembering.

Ken's greatest joy was the music. As a core member of the Bows Arts Trio, he poured his soul into every note, every lyric, every late-night jam session. Those moments were where Ken truly lived.

James Taylor once said, "The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time." Ken knew that. He lived it.
