Lamont "Monty" Elwood Finkle, 59, longtime Wichita resident, died Friday, May 9, 2025, at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center of Ascension Via Christi Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita, Kansas. Lamont's difficult battle with Melanoma though short, was fought with remarkable resilience, incredible strength and sheer determination.

He was born on January 15, 1966, in Dixon, Illinois, the son of Elwood Lamont and Virginia May Wombwell Finkle. Lamont grew up on the family farm near Coleta, Illinois, graduating from Milledgeville High School in 1984. He attended Sauk Valley College where he was a member of the Redmen basketball team. He moved to Wichita to attend and graduate from Amtech Automotive School.

Lamont was a Master Certified Mechanic in all aspects of auto repair specializing in diesel engines. Friends and coworkers often described him as a diagnostic genius who was often called upon for his fault finding skills.

A lifelong lover of water sports, Lamont found joy in boating, skiing and kneeboarding with family and friends on El Dorado Lake and the many lakes in Montello, Wisconsin. From his first mini bike as a little boy, his enthusiasm for dirt bikes and motorcycles continued throughout his entire lifetime. Although he was a passionate fan of all sports, he lived and breathed Dallas Cowboys. He was often seen sporting the team gear and sharing this love with his daughter, Wrylie.

Lamont will be deeply missed for his kind, gentle heart and his love of family and friends.

Survivors include his daughters Wrylie Finkle, Tehya Finkle, and Jaimie Finkle all of Wichita, Kansas; sisters Barbara Leech (Jerry) of Chadwick, Illinois, Terri Lund (Rick) of Montello, Wisconsin, Cheri Mizaur (Dan) of Sherrard, Illinois; and two grandsons John and Julian.

He was proceeded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life will be planned later.
