Larry Mitchell

Larry Odell Mitchell 84, passed away on October 13, 2026 in Wichita, Kansas. He was born on February 28, 1942 to Robert and Loreen (Shelton) Mitchell. He was raised near Decater, Texas.

Larry joined the Armed Forces at the age of 21 and served from 1963 through 1967. He served both the Air Force and Army, serving at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He also spent eight weeks in Basic Training to become an Avionics Technician at Laurie Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado.

Larry was then was transferred to McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas. He very much enjoyed his time at McConnell. He especially enjoyed traveling and meeting new people, and did his best at trying to learn some of the language of the local people wherever he served. He served via Temporary Duty in on Air Force bases in Vietnam, Okinawa and Yakota, Japan and at the Royal Thai Air Force Base in Karat, Thailand. His experience saw him jumping back and forth between those nations and bases. He was a member of the 357 Tactical Training group.

Larry returned to McConnel Air Force Base in 1967 where he received an Honorable Discharge. Larry then began working for Cessna, and enjoyed almost 30 years of service before retiring in 1999.

Larry met his wife, Tomie, while attending Sharon Baptist Church in Wichita, Kansas. They were married on December 24, 1965. They celebrated 60 years of love-filled marriage! They adopted two children, Albert and April, and had one daughter, Melinda.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Tomie on October 25, 2025.

Larry is survived by his two daughters; Melinda and April, son, Albert, and grandson, Obidah.
