Leroy Anderson,
Jr.
Jan 23, 1947 — Jan 5, 2025
LeRoy was born in Garden City, KS to LeRoy and Dortha Anderson.
LeRoy graduated from Garden City High School and went on to play football at Garden City Community College, beginning a lifelong enjoyment of the sport.
LeRoy worked at Butler Manufacturing, in Garden City, where he worked at material management. In order to facilitate having materials available for manufacturing, he was given the chance to learn to fly. This opportunity led to a career change to full time aviation. He advanced through private, instrument, commercial, multiengine, Certified Flight Instructor (single and multi-engine, commercial and instrument) as well as many Type Ratings in various jet aircraft, Airline Transport Pilot's certificate, accumulating hours by flight instructing and charter flying. He taught at Yingling; Redwing, Augusta; Boeing Employees Flying Club, and Flight Safety Cessna. It was while teaching flying at Redwing that he met his first female flight student who later became his wife, Kay. They were married 46 years.
LeRoy recognized that in order to advance along the commercial airline pilot career path, a college degree would be required and went back to Wichita State University, graduating in 1983, with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.
LeRoy entered the commercial airline world with Eastern Metro Airlines. Following the failure of Eastern Airlines, he worked for American Eagle Airlines, where he remained until retiring after 20+ years.
LeRoy and Kay raised three sons and a daughter, who all excelled in several sports. Wrestling eventually won out and they traveled all over the United States to compete at the National level. All the children graduated from college. He was very proud of all four and now has seven grandchildren, four boys, three girls, and another expected early spring 2025.
He died peacefully at home in his sleep surrounded by beloved family on 01/05/2025 of complication of kidney failure.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, Dortha and LeRoy, and brother, Larry.
He is survived by his wife Kay, daughter Melanie (Sammy), son LeRoy (Kristin), son David (Shelby), son Eric (Tiffany), 8 grandchildren Clara, Alice, Julie, Gabe, Lukas, Kaleb, Andrew, and soon to arrive Emmett.
