Lucas Alfred Cruz, Sr., 69, of Hutchinson, Kansas, died Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.

He was born on June 18, 1956 in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Tony and Veronica Vigil Cruz, Sr. Lucas was raised in the Garden City area where he graduated from high school and later attended Dodge City Community College.

He married Mary Kay McMahon on April 14, 1973 in Garden City. They lived in Dodge City for several years until moving to Hutchinson three years ago.

Through the years Lucas had worked at the area meat packing plants, been a janitor at Catholic Churches and schools. Being an automobile mechanic was the one thing he loved to do.

Survivors include his wife Mary of the home in Hutchinson; his children Luke Cruz and wife Beverly of Dodge City, Darlishia Cruz and husband Paul Gillenwater of Topeka, Catina Kelley of Hutchinson, Alonzo Cruz, Sr. and wife Krista of Cimarron, Ks., Shawn Cruz and wife Emily of San Diego, California; Natalie Cruz, Alonzo Cruz, Jr., Lisa Cruz all of the home; 19 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Lucas is also survived by his siblings Christopher Cruz, Mary Ortiz, Vickie Ngirachedeng all of Garden City, and Rosie Gomez of Garfield, New Mexico.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son Charlie Cruz; brother Tony Cruz, Jr.; and sister Cathy Cruz.

Arrangements are by Affordable Cremations Plus, Wichita, Kansas.
