Obituary

Lydia Kathleen Brookins, 29, was born in Wichita Kansas on November 16, 1995 to James and Shari Brookins. She resided in the Wichita area for most of her life, with a short time living in Fresno, CA. She had recently moved to Lawrence, Kansas. While in school, Lydia participated in track, cross country, soccer, debate, forensics, and music theater. She enjoyed playing board games, card games, corn hole, and pool. Lydia graduated Magna Cum Laude from Wichita State University with a degree in Social Work. She worked for the KanCare Ombudsman office as an intern during college and for a year and a half after she graduated. Lydia loved helping people. She often volunteered for organizations such as: Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Special Olympics, and various food banks and community clean up opportunities.

Lydia is survived by her parents of Wichita, sisters Hannah of Kansas City, MO and Abigail of Wichita and brother, Jesse (Micha) of Kearney, MO. She is also survived by her grandmother, Debbie Diershaw of North Richland Hills, TX and many aunts and uncles and cousins. She is also survived by her nephew, Benji.

Lydia was preceded in death by both her maternal grandparents-Oscar and Nina Francis of Keokuk, IA and her paternal grandparents-James Brookins of Anchorage, AK and Ruth Watkins of Wichita, three aunts, three uncles, five unborn siblings, and a nephew, Beckett.

Memorial service will be held at 10 am Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Morningstar Community Church 11010 E Kellogg Drive in Wichita, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider honoring Lydia and offering others hope by donating to one of these organizations.
