Margaret Lucille Zimmerman, age 80, passed away peacefully on July 2nd, 2025.  She was born on August 10, 1944, in Roxbury, Ks. to Edgar and Esther.  She was married to her husband, Elmer Zimmerman, on March 21st, 1964.  Their marriage was full of love and faith, which carried them through 61 years of marriage.

Margaret was happiest when she was spending time with her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her so much joy. She was a very giving person and would often give to others even in times when she didn't have much to give.  She would always find a way to help the people she cared about.  That was her greatest gift.  Margaret's deep love for her siblings and her nieces and nephews was seen and felt by everyone. Margaret was also very social and enjoyed spending time with her various friend groups, going out to eat and playing bunko.

Margaret attended school in Roxbury, Ks until halfway through her 6th grade year when her and her family moved to McPherson, Ks. She then graduated high school in 1962 from McPherson High School. Margaret was a stay-at-home mom to her two daughters Debbie and Angie for 20 years.  She then went back to work and was the manager of a women's clothing store, The Villager, in McPherson, Ks. starting in 1986.

Margaret was diagnosed with late stage 3 breast cancer in 1996.  Through her positive outlook, her strong faith and the support from her family and friends, Margaret beat the odds and survived breast cancer after a long 2-year battle.  Twenty-four years later she would get a Parkinsons diagnosis. She fought this new challenge every step of the way.  Her drive for independence and her sharp mind helped her through this battle.

Margaret is survived by her husband Elmer Zimmerman, sister Elizabeth Anderson (Carl Jr.), two daughters Debbie Yianakopolus (Larry), and Angie Ward (Tom), grandchildren Derek Curry (Amber), Kameron Curry (Jamie), Ellie Kilbreath (Jared), and Abbey Ward (Austin Hamm), great-grandchildren Avery and Hunter Curry, and Corbyn, Brayden, and Addie Curry, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Edgar and Esther, sister Donna Alexander, brother Charles Burch, and sister-in-law Gloria Burch

Please join us in a celebration of her life on Saturday, August 9th at the McPherson Church of the Brethren at 1:30 pm, 200 N. Carrie St., McPherson, Ks. 67460.  Following the service there will be a reception at the church for family and friends to provide a time to enjoy Margaret's famous strawberry cake and to share special stories and memories.
