Marvin Lavern Maxwell, 79, died Friday, May 8, 2026 at the Kansas Veterans' Home in Winfield, Kansas where he had been a resident for the past six years.

He was born on October 29, 1946 in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, the son of L.E. and Orna Shaffer Maxwell. After graduating from high school in Ash Fork, Arkansas Marvin enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Viet Nam Conflict.

Through the years Marvin had lived in Idaho, Winfield, Kansas, South Haven, Kansas, and Wellington. He married Sharon Patricia Stark Cattlett on March 17, 1984. They continued to live in Wellington until moving to Wichita in 2014.

Marvin had been a truck driver for many years and later was a driver for St. Francis Academy in Wellington for seven years until retiring.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Marvin was also a member of the Wellington V.F.W., enjoyed square dancing and was an avid reader.

Survivors include his wife Sharon Maxwell of the home in Wichita; her children Miranda Macaronas of Coffeyville, Ks., Colin Cattlett and wife Kelly of Wichita, Wendy Sheldon of Tulsa, Jason Cattlett of Wichita; brother Johnnie Lee Maxwell and wife Cindy of Notus, Idaho; sister Virginia Ruth Hunt of Wichita; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.

Marvin is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Russell, Larry, Leslie, and Bobby.

Memorial services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints, 401 N. Westlink Avenue, Wichita, Kansas 67209 on Saturday, May 16 at 10:00 A.M., with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall of the church
