Mary Louise Wehrheim, 73, a longtime Wichita resident, died Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center at Ascension Via Christi Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.

She was born April 2, 1953, in Evanston, Illinois, the daughter of Lawrence and Betty (Murphy) Wehrheim Sr. The family moved to Wichita in 1956, where Mary graduated from Mt. Carmel Academy. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Wichita State University and her master's degree from Bryn Mawr College.

For more than 20 years, Mary worked as an Insurance Group Administrator before retiring in 2015. She also shared her love of history as a member of the adjunct faculty at Friends University and Newman University.

Throughout the years, Mary was active in civic life and served as president of the League of Women Voters in Wichita. She loved watching movies and spending time with her cats.

Family and friends were very important to Mary. She is survived by her brother, Larry Wehrheim and his wife, Martha, of Wichita; nephew, David Wehrheim and his wife, Shana, of Valley Center, Kansas; and niece, Jennifer, and her husband, Kevin Dechant, of Hamburg, Iowa. She is also survived by several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents.

As were her wishes, no services will be held.
