Michael Glazer, 84, of McPherson, Kansas, died Monday, February 10, 2025, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas following a brief illness.

He was born on November 9, 1940 in New York City, N.Y. Mike was raised in the Bronx, where he learned to love all things baseball. Mike spent much of his youth hanging out with his friends and family, playing stickball in the streets, and making the trek to Yankees Stadium to watch games and gather autographs. Mike graduated from William Howard Taft High School in 1957, at the age of 16. After graduating, Mike worked in the city for several years before attending college. He went on to attend and graduate from the State University of New York at Farmingdale in 1965.

Once he completed his studies in NY, Mike decided to leave the city and head west to Kansas. Growing up in the city, he dreamed of being a cowboy on the open range. He said many times that he knew in those first few days of arriving in Manhattan, KS, that he had found the place he was meant to be. Shortly after arriving at Kansas State University, with very little experience with either cattle or horses, Mike was somehow able to secure a job as a pasture rider and became the cowboy he dreamed of being.

Mike graduated with a BS in Agriculture from KSU in 1968.  During this time, he also met his wife of 54 years, Darlene Sims Bailey, whom he married on July 12, 1968. This union made him an immediate father of four children; ultimately becoming a proud father of five.

Mike loved to travel and used his jobs in research and sales to see the world. The family made several moves over the years; including Kansas, Washington, Hawaii, and Texas. Mike and Darlene ultimately settled in McPherson, KS in 1986 where they continued to live. Mike loved to see new places and was fortunate to travel all over the United States and internationally as well.  For all that he saw and did, the favorites that he chose to visit multiple times include Grand Lake, CO, Yellowstone, and Kauai, HI.

Through the years, Mike met many people on his travels. If you were fortunate enough to gain him as a friend, it was because he viewed you as someone he respected and he held you in very high regard. Loyalty and respect for those he admired and loved were paramount to Mike.

Mike is survived by his children Steve Bailey of Middleburg, Virginia, Robin Bailey of Topeka, KS, Mike Bailey (Cheryl) of Frankfort, KS, Tina Massengale (Keith) of Wellsville, KS., and Jennifer Umscheid (Dwight) of St. George, KS, his brother Joel Glazer (Alice) of Portland, Oregon; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Nathan Glazer; mother, Hannah Krell Fanwick; wife Darlene; and one grandson Sandy Bailey.

A celebration of Mike's life will be held later in the spring.
