Michael Eugene Sheets, 77, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025. He was born on April 15, 1948, in Frankfort, Indiana, to Robert and Phyllis (Maish) Sheets.

Michael proudly volunteered to serve in the United States Army from 1966-1969, where he was stationed in Vietnam as a gunner with the 25th Infantry Division. His service and dedication to his country were a source of great pride throughout his life.

He had a deep love for the outdoors and was happiest when fishing or traveling to beautiful places. Music was another passion of his; his collections of vinyls and CDs filled his home with songs, and he took delight in inviting family and friends to sing along. Those who knew him will remember his sense of humor most of all—Michael never missed a chance to lighten the moment with a silly joke and a playful smile.

Michael was welcomed into Heaven by his parents; his son, Robert Sheets; his daughter, Michelle Sheets Maggert; and his granddaughters, Alexandra Rekoske and Ashley Julia Starnes.

He is survived by his daughters, Kimberly Marshall, Stephanie Matlock, and Amanda Sheets; his sister, Pam Sheets; 10 grandchildren—Courtney, Randy, Jesse, Michael, Erica, Barbara, Jacob, Colby, Seth, and Ian—and many great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him great joy.

Michael's memory will live on in the laughter he shared, the stories he told, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A funeral service will be held on October 10, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield, Kansas.
