Obituary

Monica moved through this world like a song—graceful, expressive, and filled with joy and creativity. Born in Wichita, Kansas, she traveled widely and lived in many places, carrying her light and open heart into every place and every life she touched.

An expressive artist in body and spirit, Monica was a dancer, actress, poet, Reiki Master, and massage therapist—a storyteller who spoke through movement, words, and presence. She moved through life with grace, a radiant spirit guided by creativity, compassion, and a heart open to wonder.

For Monica, creativity was not simply a passion—it was her way of being in the world. She lived creatively and courageously, embracing life with imagination, tenderness, and beautiful emotional depth. Those who knew her will remember the spark in her eyes, the warmth in her laughter, and the vibrant energy she brought to every room.

She found beauty everywhere. In melody and rhythm, she felt at home—singing and dancing freely, strumming guitar and ukulele. She loved the magic of musicals, the power of the stage, the quiet wonder of the visual arts, and the serenity of the natural world.

Kind and deeply sensitive, Monica offered her presence as a gift. Her spirit glowed with rare gentleness and strength.

She was welcomed home by her father, Shannon Word; her grandfathers, Edmund Santos, Sr., Robert Word, step-grandfather Sergio Torres, and step-grandmother Carmen Torres; and her uncles, Mark Santos, Elmer Stock, Salvador Santos, Jr., and her stepbrother William Ramos.

She leaves behind a circle of enduring love: her grandmothers, Arlene Santos and Pat Word; her mother, Lori Santos, and stepfather, Yamil Ramos; her sister, Mvháyv Santos-Deere; her brother-in-law, Koy Rigby; her godmother, Sherri Stock; her godfather, Edmund Santos, Jr.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and loved ones who will carry her memory forward.
