Nila Jean Dement, 76, of Wichita, died Sunday, March 1, 2026 at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Unit of Ascension Via Christi Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita, Kansas.

She was born on March 30, 1949 in Wichita, the daughter of John and Mary Whitney Marling. Nila was raised in Wichita where she graduated from West High School. She married Thomas Richard Dement then separated after 22 years.

She worked at Boeing Aircraft for 35 years where she was a parts handler, retiring in 2006. Nila had a huge flower garden that she enjoyed spending time in with her sister Cherrie. She also loved spending time with her two dogs, Justine and Dee Dee.

Survivors include her son Rick Dement and his wife Angie, along with her daughter Kelly Dement all of Wichita; brother Johnny Marling of Washington; nine grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Nila is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Pat Sackett, Eddie Marling, Don Marling; sister Cherrie Hunter; and granddaughter Magen Alana Nacole Dement.

Private family services will be held.
