Norman Joseph Bayer, 86, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, in Wichita, KS surrounded by his family. He was born on February 10, 1940, in Wichita, KS to Joseph and Rose (Gegen) Bayer.
Norman felt compelled to join the U.S. Army where he was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas and attained the rank of Specialist 5th Class with a technical specialization in the Hawk Missile defense battery, an early precursor to what is now the Patriot system. Until his departing day he was very proud of his association with the Army.

He is survived by his brothers Ronald (Susan) of Willis, TX and Alan of Lewisville, TX; children Rhonda Zonoozi of Sun City, AZ; Robin Bayer of Durham, NC; Debora Brand of Wichita, KS; and David Bayer (Megan) of Wichita, KS, and seven beloved grandchildren.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, brother Kenneth, sister Carolyn, and his two sons Clinton and Clayton. Although he and Gloria were not married at the time of his death, they remained very close throughout life, and Norman took great joy in Gloria's company and attention to his comfort towards the end of his life. Norman was known for his love of reading, watching WWII documentaries, and playing guitar.
