Patrick Edwards

Patrick Henry Edwards of Wichita, Kansas Born: June 15,1953 Died: September 22,2026 of complications from heart disease.

Patrick worked for IBM for eight years before attending law school and becoming a practicing attorney for 24 years. His innate curiosity gave him eclectic tastes and the ability to converse on a wide variety of subjects.

In the days before spell check, Patrick twice won the Kansas State Spelling Bee, in 1966 and 1967, earning a place at the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

He was a cinephile and an avid collector of movies. If you wanted to know which actor appeared in a film, Patrick was the man to ask. But more than anything, he enjoyed humor. His thoughts on humorless people echoed the Tom Petty lyric: “Don’t come around here no more.”

When Patrick was growing up, his brother Joe once had a friend over. Hearing an unfamiliar voice, the friend asked, “Who’s that?” Joe replied casually, “That’s my brother — a man of a thousand voices.” That was Patrick: always honing his comedic skills to brighten someone’s day. There were times when his humor would knock you right off your chair — a true, unforgettable laugh.

A special thank‑you to the doctors who managed his care over the years: Stephen Grindel, DO (family practice), and Gregory Boxberger, MD (cardiology). Gratitude is also extended to the dedicated ICU nurses at Wesley Medical Center and the palliative care nurses from Phoenix Home Care, whose compassion allowed Patrick to die peacefully at home, with humor, until the end.

Patrick is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Patricia Edwards.

He is survived by his wife, Donella, of 49 years; his brother Joseph (Barb) Edwards of Dallas, TX, and their children Lily Edwards and Luke (Sara) Edwards; and his sister, Amy Edwards of Shawnee, KS.

To honor Patrick’s request, there will be no service.
