Raymond Grier, 99, died Monday, April 27, 2026. He was born on February 16, 1927 in Mt. Hope, Kansas to William Rothrock Grier and Eva Athella Manion Grier.

He attended Mt. Hope School's, 1st through 12 grades and joined the U.S. Navy on February 13th, 1945 during his senior year and was honorably discharged on July 31st, 1946. He received his high school diploma and was awarded Salutatorian of his class. After coming home from the Navy, he attended Wichita Business College and took every course they had. He went to work for Sedgwick County and left a few years later and moved back to Mt. Hope and became manager of the Mt. Hope Farmer's Co-op where he stayed until his retirement in 1992 at the age of 65. Even when he would get off work most days he would go help many of the farmers at their farms.

After retirement he started enjoying outside activities including chopping wood and delivering to family and friends. He did this until he turned 90 and his wife made him quit. Also, he would go catch squirrels, possums, racoons and skunks and carry them out to the country and turn them loose. Later he actually took time to enjoy activities such as golf and fishing and this is what kept him young and healthy and alive.

He spent a lot of time at Pathway Church doing activities with members and also gave 40 gallons of blood to the Red Cross which he received recognition for in 2024. He also would go out and gather up walnuts and get pecans from his son which he would pick out and give to almost any and all acquaintances and did this until the very end of his life.

Raymond was preceded in death by his loving wife Barbara (Young) Grier; his parents; brothers Garland Grier, Hershel Dale Grier, Virgil Duane Grier, Gayle Max Grier; sisters Dorothy Janice Grier; grandson Skiler Darling; and great grandson Bryce Eklund.

Survivors to mourn his passing are his daughter and son-in-law Cynthia and Robert Swann of Wichita, KS, daughter and son-in-law Sherri and Duane Darling of Charleston, S.C.; son and daughter-in-law Kendall and Liz Grier of Halstead, KS; daughter and son-in-law Stephanie and Ernest Kempf of Winfield, KS.;step-daughter and husband Heidi and Jack Brandenberger of Wichita, KS, step-daughter Trina Fuller of Wichita, KS; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Pathway Church, 2001 North Maize Road, Wichita, KS 67212 and Meals on Wheels, 200 South Walnut Street, Wichita, KS 67213.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, May 28th at Pathway Church.
