Richard Eugene
Chrislip
Dec 21, 1953 — Apr 21, 2026
Richard Eugene "Rick" Chrislip, 72, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away on April 21, 2026 at his home. Rick was born on December 21, 1953 in McPherson, Kansas to Mae Birkes and Robert Chrislip. He was also the stepson of Jan Chrislip, whom he was very fond of and appreciated for the kindness she showed to him and his family.
He grew up in the McPherson area, where he spent much of his life and built a reputation as a highly skilled and dedicated floor covering installer. Working for himself, he took great pride in his craftsmanship and the relationships he built with those he served. He shared a deep and enduring bond with his wife, Joyce Chrislip, who was truly the center of his world. Though they experienced time apart, their love remained, and they found their way back to one another, remarrying on June 7, 2005. Together, they built a life centered around family, faith, and the simple joys they shared side by side.
Later in life, Rick and Joyce made their home in Wichita, Kansas, where they continued building their life together and shared many cherished memories. Rick had a deep love for music and was a talented guitar player. He found great joy in playing and sharing his passion for music with others. He was also artistically gifted, with a natural ability to draw detailed portraits, and he enjoyed writing poetry.
Rick dedicated his life to his Creator, Jehovah God, and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on September 1, 1978. While he, like all of us, was not perfect, his faith was his strength and his comfort. He found purpose in the Bible and did his best to live by its teachings, enjoying sharing its message with others as part of his worship. In keeping his faith, he found comfort in the Bible's promise of a future hope, including the hope of a resurrection here on earth.
Rick was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He was known for his kind and generous nature-he would do anything for anyone and truly had a heart of gold. He had a unique sense of humor that made people laugh easily, and his silliness and lighthearted spirit could brighten any room he walked into. He loved his family immensely and had a special love for animals. Throughout his life, he and his wife shared a home filled with parrots and a variety of birds, which brought him great joy.
Rick is survived by his mother, Mae Birkes; his stepmother, Jan Chrislip, his children, Paul Chrislip and Stacy Unruh (Andy), brother, Mike Chrislip, his nieces, Amber and Haylee, his grandchildren, Cody Chrislip, Tyler Peterson (Brittany), Alexis Peterson, AJ Unruh, and Drezden Chrislip, his great grandchildren, Easton Peterson, Kayden Chrislip, and Raelynn Chirslip.
He was preceded in death by his son, Keith Chrislip in December 2024, his wife, Joyce Chrislip on July 12, 2025, his grandson, Finley Chrislip on February 10, 2014, and his father, Robert Chrislip on May 3, 2014.
Rick will be remember for his hard work, his many talents, his faith, his humor, and the love he gave so freely to his family and those around him.
Memorial services to be held at a later date and will be published in the McPherson Sentinel.
