Robert L. Hammond, 89, passed away on September 16, 2025 in Wichita, KS with family at his side.

He was born on June 7, 1936 in Nehalem, OR to Leonard Ira Hammond and Blanche Jay Hammond. Robert grew up in Rainier, Oregon where he graduated from high school. He attended college for year studying horticulture. Robert served his country for four years in the Army Reserve in Oregon.

Robert was a soldier for the Salvation Army. Much of his career was spent working for the church and non-profit driving their donation collection truck around Grays Harbor County, Washington. On the weekend he shuttled believers of all ages to church and Sunday school.

He cherished the simple joys of life like fishing with his sons, where they shared countless hours by the water, creating memories that would last a lifetime. His love for horticulture was evident in the vibrant dahlias he cultivated, each bloom a testament to his dedication and passion for nurturing life. Embracing the charm of small-town living, he found contentment in the close-knit community, familiar faces, and a good local parade. Above all, he treasured the moments spent with his grandchildren, whose laughter and love brought him immeasurable happiness and fulfillment.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Audrey Hammond, daughter, Jeannie Bisher, brother, Harvey Hammond, sister, Mary Lee Thorpe, one grandchild, two great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

He is survived by his partner Sandra Newman and his children; Robin Wytoski (George), Jennifer Coombes (Tom), Robert D. Hammond, Ann Squier-Hammond, Robert L. Hammond (Angela) and Ira Hammond, 20 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.
