Robert Lee Wheeler, 54, passed away Monday, March 2, 2026 at his home in Augusta, Kansas.

He was born on April 23, 1971 in El Dorado, Kansas. Robert graduated from high school in Augusta, KS. He moved to Augusta in 1986 where he met and married April Nanette Lytle on July 6, 1990 in Augusta, KS.

Robert had worked at the El Dorado Correctional Facility since 2021 doing facility maintenance. He spent 20 years working Aircraft in Wichita, KS previously.

Family was very important to him. Outside of his job he was a beloved papa to his six grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife April of the his in Augusta; son Joshua Wheeler and wife Danielle of Augusta; daughter Amber McCormick and husband Sean of Towanda; brother Michael Patterson of Derby; sister Tammy Wheeler of Mississippi; and his six grandchildren whom he loved being "Papa" to, Addalynn, Cooper, Olivia and Gabriel Wheeler along with Emelia and Nolan McCormick.

Robert is preceded in death by his father Robert Alfred Wheeler; mother Mary Jane Stevens Dunaway; and brother Timothy Patterson.
