Obituary

Susan Beth Posey, of Derby, Kansas, passed away on March 21, 2026, at the age of 70. She was born on July 26, 1955, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Susan was raised in rural Wallingford, Iowa, by Margaret and Bernard Osher. She attended Graettinger High School and was an active member of Wallingford Lutheran Church. Growing up, she developed a deep appreciation for farm life in northern Iowa, where she learned gardening and later pursued her passion by studying horticulture at Iowa Lakes Community College.

She raised her three children—Nichole, Stephen, and J.J.—on the family farm, where her father, Bernard, helped build a strong foundation for the Osher family. Susan was a devoted mother, wife, and Christian, actively involved in her community, including the Estherville Farmers Market.

From the summer of 1993 to 1996, Susan operated a strawberry "you-pick" business and raised horses. She also had a love for music, learning to play the piano and organ at an early age. In the 1990s, she played organ for Wallingford Lutheran Church and was a lifelong fan of The Beatles, often sharing her love of their music with her children.

In September 2002, Susan relocated to south-central Kansas to be closer to her daughter Nichole and her first granddaughter, Kylie, who lovingly referred to her as "Horsie Grandma." She later lived near Kaw Lake, Oklahoma, before moving to Winfield, Kansas, in 2006. Her son J.J. graduated from Winfield that same year.

From 2006 to 2024, Susan lived in Winfield and Arkansas City, Kansas. She worked at Creative Community Living and was known for her kindness and dedication.

Susan was a loving grandmother to Kylie, Naveya,  Annabelle, McKenna, and Mallory, and a proud great-grandmother to Sayler. She cherished her family deeply.

She is survived by her daughter, Nichole and family of Derby; her son, Stephen of Winfield; her son, J.J. of Wichita; her granddaughters Kylie, Naveya, McKenna, and Mallory of Derby, and Annabelle of Oxford; and her great-granddaughter, Sayler of Derby.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Margaret Osher, and her husband, Jerry Posey.

Susan will be remembered for her strong faith, love of family, passion for gardening, music, and the simple joys of farm life. Her warmth, resilience, and devotion to those she loved will be dearly missed.
