A very proud U.S. Veteran has walked through the Heavenly Gates. Tim Spencer passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024, with his loving wife at his side.  Tim fought several health issues in his last years and lost to COPD.

Timothy Dwight Spencer, born January 28, 1950 in Emporia, Kansas, was the second of six children of Dr. Dwight Louis Spencer and his wife, Martha L. C. Spencer, RN.  His parents met following WW II, both having served in the U.S. Army with distinguished service.  Tim proudly served, and as in everything he did, he excelled.  During specialized training in Air Defense at Ft. Bliss, Tim was retained there to teach that course to the next arrivals.   The U.S. Army later located a senior officer to take over the group.  As an E5, Tim was sent to Vietnam to decommission the anti-aircraft missiles positioned there during the war.  Tim told of the flight stopover in Alaska where doors were guarded by riflemen to insure no soldiers would attempt to run from their duty assignments in Vietnam.  Next came his assignment high on the mountain tops of Korea on the DMZ.  Although the Korean War was said to be over, there were nightly invasions.  During one such skirmish, the heel was shot off Tim's boot.  Tim shared many stories in our years with any who asked.  Arriving back following his service, he faced the hatred toward soldiers of that era.  It always bothered him, but the last few years he received thanks for his service and this pleased him.

Tim was a 1968 graduate of Roosevelt High School and received many honors in Debate.  Tim worked with his father on the Emporia State Nature Reservation, assisted him in the study Dr. Spencer used to achieve his Doctorate, and worked to rescue several feral species. He was an avid participant in hunting, fishing, trapping, and adventures with his father, uncles, cousins and friends starting from a very early age.  Tim's cousins remain very dear to his heart: Vicky (Joe) Schartz (TX), Karolyn Fulmer (Topeka), Tom (Nancy) Logan (Manhattan) & Raymond (Linda) Spencer (UT).

Tim was preceded in death by his sister Nancy Lynn Spencer, his infant daughter Sheila, both his parents, his brothers James Campbell Spencer and George Allen Spencer, and stepson Christopher L. Nold.

Tim is survived by older sister Janet Claire Spencer Bosomworth (IN), Robert Warren Spencer (Emporia), his daughter Nancy Lynne (TX), step children, Richard Nold (Osage Beach, MO), Shawn Metcalfe (Hartford), Amanda Metcalfe (Emporia), nieces  Michelle Spencer (Topeka) and Andrea Spencer (Emporia), nephew Jesse Spencer (Emporia), and Tim's almost-steps, Aaron C. Brown (CA) & James W. Manning (Wichita), and wife, Kathleen (Katy) Bayer Spencer and our furred and feathered babies of the home.

Tim was an honorable, kind, and loving friend to so very many.  He was unsuccessful as a self-proclaimed cat hater.  He could not quite balance the rescue with the re-home aspect.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
