Tomie Jean Mitchell, 80, died Friday afternoon, October 25, 2024 at her home in Wichita with her family around her.

She was born on June 24, 1944 in McAlester, Oklahoma, the daughter of Nelson Floyd and Wanda Leora Dawson Hass. The family lived in McAlester until she was starting high school and moved to Wichita where she graduated from Wichita East High School.

Tomie was united in marriage to Larry Odell Mitchell on December 4, 1965 in Wichita. She had been a Secretary in the Education Department at Wichita State University for over 20 years until retiring. Tomie enjoyed playing bingo.

Survivors include her husband Larry of the home; children Melinda Mitchell and spouse Erika of Wichita, Albert Mitchell of Wichita, and April Trout and husband Randy of Texas; two sisters Anna Maldanado and Neletta Fredelke; and one grandson Obie Trout.

Tomie is preceded in death by her parents and sister Wanetta Hass.
