Verle Darlene Munn was a woman of quiet strength, creativity, and deep love for family, whose life was marked by hard work, resilience, and an enduring gift for bringing beauty into the world.

Verle was born to Claude and Pearl Hartshorn and grew up alongside three siblings, forming close family bonds that remained important throughout her life, especially her niece Tana Egan. She graduated from Keenesburg High School, where the foundations of her strong work ethic were already evident.

Following high school, Verle moved to Denver and worked as a dental assistant, sharing a charming historic home downtown with other young women—an early chapter filled with independence and friendship. She later worked at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs as a room maid alongside her sister, Wanda. It was there that she met Jerry Rothe, who was serving in the Army at Fort Carson. After marriage, they welcomed two daughters, Teresa and Rene, who remained the center of Verle's life and greatest joy.

Never afraid to learn something new, Verle later attended cosmetology school in Kansas, continuing her lifelong pattern of growth and creativity. Her professional path eventually led her to a move to Kansas City, Missouri, in the mid-1980s, to work for Glidden Wallcoverings, and pursue interior design, where she found her true calling. Verle took great pride and pleasure in helping others create beautiful, welcoming homes—spaces filled with warmth, care, and personal touch.

On September 21st, 1991, Verle married Gerry Munn, beginning a new chapter grounded in companionship and shared life. They were soulmates and utterly committed to each other no matter what, with Gerry being her unwavering caregiver until the very end of her life. No matter where Verle and Gerry were, if they were together, they were always holding hands. A true sign of their love for each other.

During their life together, they traveled to Florida, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Hawaii. In their latter years, they moved back to Wichita from Kansas City to be close to Gerry's children, Jadd (Summer) and Allison, and Verle's daughter, Rene (Darren).

She cherished her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother, finding joy in family gatherings, playing Nertz (and winning), never wanted to miss a Taco Tuesday at her favorite KC Mexican restaurant, snuggles with either her dogs or those who had dogs, and watching new generations grow. She was an amazing vocalist and thrived most when performing in her church choirs, where she was able to express the love of the Lord.

Verle will be remembered for her dedication, her eye for beauty, her quiet determination, and the love she gave so freely to those around her. Her legacy lives on through her family, the homes she helped transform, and the many lives she touched along the way. A beautiful person inside and out, she would walk into the room and light up the space, with people naturally gravitating to her.

She is survived by her husband, Gerry Munn, her daughters, Teresa Potts (RA) and Rene Dysart (Darren), stepson Jadd (Summer) and stepdaughter Allison, along with eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who happened to enter her orbit.

Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, January 19th 2026, 1:00pm at Central Community Church, Wichita, KS.
