Vernon Dean Westenfeld, 66, passed away at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita, KS on September 15, 2024. Cremation has been effected.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for 10:00 A.M. on Monday September 23, 2024 at Northside Baptist Church in Arkansas City followed by a graveside service at Highland Cemetery in Winfield to honor him and his late wife Carolyn.

Vernon was born on December 5, 1957, to Dean and Dorothy (Cole) Westenfeld in Winfield, KS. He was reared and educated in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School. After school Vernon worked several odd jobs.

In the early 1980s he began work at Twin Rivers Developmental Supports in various areas until settling into Maintenance before ending his years of service as a vocational trainer. Vernon met Carolyn Grimes in 1983 while working for the same company, they married Sept. 1, 1984. The couple made their home in Arkansas City.

He is survived by father Dean Westenfeld; daughters Amanda Evinger (Mike Jr.), Amanda Westenfeld, and Sarrah Metzinger (Garrett); brother-in-law Hank Grimes (Mary); sisters Kim Gard and Deana Westenfeld. Nieces Kimberly Ates, Dallas Shannon (Mike), Deana Kaye Gard and nephew Matthew Westenfeld (Hannah). Grandkids include Lillian, Landan, Karston Evinger, Thomas, Benjamin, and Jacob Metzinger. Numerous great-nieces and nephews. Close Family friends Sandi Stickel, Jeremy Stickel (Amanda), Tonya Kendrick (Mark), and honorary grandchildren Casslynn Stansbury, Sydney Kendrick, Jared Worman (Octavia) and Jillian Stickel.

Vernon is preceded in death by his wife Carolyn, mother Dorothy, brother Todd, mother-in-law Sarrah Grimes, and close friend John Stickel.

Flowers and contributions may be made through the family or Northside Baptist Church.
