Vicki Jo
Conway
Jun 24, 1950 — Feb 20, 2026
Vicki Jo Conway decided on February 20, 2026 that Wichita, Kansas, had enjoyed her long enough.
Born June 24, 1950 she completed the family of Albert and Nina (Wolf) Reese and instantly became her older sister Linda's adversary - a role she embraced with enthusiasm.
Following boundary changes, she begrudgingly attended South High School for her senior year and graduated without honors in the class of '69.
In November of 1969, after knowing him for just a few weeks and much to her parents' chagrin, she married Robert Conway. From that decision came two children: One smart and one beautiful, Marci Lea and Robert Jr, you can decide which is which.
Coming from a family of four, Vicki wasted no time adapting to life with the Conways. In marrying Bob, she gained eight brothers, six sisters, and countless nieces and nephews who each are absolutely convinced they were her favorite.
For years, Vicki worked second shift as a Ward Clerk at Riverside Hospital so her children would always have a parent home. She later worked at the Wichita Clinic as a Scheduler/Medical Assistant for Drs. Walton and Koehn, where her hair and surely her fiery attitude earned her the nickname "Red". She retired in 2016, with no love lost for the updated computer system.
The Conways were avid hockey fans and proud season ticket holders for both the Wichita Wind and later the Wichita Thunder. Equipped with binoculars and a cowbell - she was little, but she was LOUD.
She loved football and was loyal to the KC Chiefs, though she did not care for Taylor Swift because, as she put it, "she stole my boyfriend."
Playing cards was serious business. When the kids were young, weekends meant marathon canasta games with her parents stretching into the wee hours of the morning. Later, while playing with her son, she often observed, "Rob only wins when he's the scorekeeper." This allegation remains under investigation.
In the kitchen… well, let us just say her culinary motto was: "burnt side down."
She despised spicy food, getting up early, and wearing shoes.
She deeply loved her husband, Bob, who preceded her in death in 2012. She also leaves behind her daughter, Marci, and son-in-law, Tray; and her son Rob, whom she loved dearly and, if she were being honest, just a tiny bit more. She adored her grandchildren, Tray II and Corey. And cherished her beloved black cat, Emma, who sadly beat her to the afterparty.
No sendoff for Vicki would be complete without mentioning her other daughters. Dorothy Harvey, who stayed the night in middle school and never left; Amy, Dana, Jeri Lyn, and Shonda – along with their children, her bonus grandchildren, whom she adored.
Vicki's love as a mom, grandma, aunt, and friend will be dearly missed. She did not want a funeral and would not want a fuss but did love a good get-together.
So please join us for a "Praise Vicki Party," a come-and-go celebration of her life. Friday, March 6, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at The Fresh Air Baby Camp, 1221 W. 11th Wichita, Ks. Bring your best Vicki stories. The louder the laughter, the more she would approve.
Arrangements are by Affordable Cremations Plus, Wichita, Ks.
